Welcome to the weird and wonderful world of the GREEN WOMEN. These putridly painted pucks draw on the associative cultural history of women tainted with monstrousness, madness and malady; marked indelibly. But I recast them as women who own their green skin, possessed, only by their will and lust for life, by a high-spirited knowingness, wild mischievousness and a thirst for subversion. I draw on the liminal and the verdant and a conjuring of the feminine through lustrous pastel pigments and magical orchestration. The tactile portraits of these fictional femmes intermingle texts from horror, science fiction and fantasy. I’m drawn to the camp excess of the putrid pallor as a way of critiquing and celebrating the history of the demonic feminine through parody and humour.
